Step 1. Enable IMAP in Gmail Account Manually

Log in to your Gmail account and hit the gear button to open settings

  2. Navigate to Forwarding and POP/IMAP section
  3. Enable on the radio button that is next to Enable IMAP
  4. Then, click on the Save Changes button to apply the settings

Step 2. Add IMAP / POP3 Gmail Account in Outlook

  1. Launch Outlook application and click on File >> Account Settings
  2. Click New to add the IMAP account
  3. Select Manual Setup option and click on POP or IMAP
  4. After this enter the following settings in corresponding fields


Type Account Type – IMAP
Full Name or Account Name [your name]
Email address Full email address for Gmail account (
Username Full email address for Gmail account (
Password Enter Google Apps account password
Require authentication (SPA) Checked
Incoming server
Port 993
Encryption Type SSL
Outgoing server
Port 587 (or 465)
Encryption type TLS (or SSL)
Use the same settings as incoming server Checked
  1. After this, click on More Settings and select the Outgoing Server tab
  2. Here, choose My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires Authentication option and select Use Same Settings As My Incoming Server


  1. Click on Advanced tab and enter 993 in Incoming Server port for IMAP


  1. Select This Server Requires an Encrypted Connection option to set the encryption type to SSL
  2. In Outgoing Server Port, enter 587 and set the encryption type to TLS. Click OK
  3. Hit the Next button and correct errors. Click Finish
